How Shipit's live shipping prices work

Shipit's live shipping prices may override the internal price for the selected shipping method at checkout when Shipit returns a valid service price for the shipping address and cart. For each shipping method priced in Shipit, define a service code, live price switch, price multiplier, and safe internal fallback price. Do not use the Shipit price for a shipping method that is based on your own shipping contract.

Verify Shipit live price requirements

The Shipit live price calculation requires the recipient's delivery country and postal code, the store's sender's country and postal code, and the shopping cart's packaging size and weight. The package is sent in the request for quotation as a single package, the length, width, and height of which come from the shopping cart's packaging size calculation and the maximum weight of the shopping cart is used as the weight. The minimum weight is set to 0.1.

Before implementation, ensure that the Shipit integration IDs are configured, the store address information is correct, and the correct Shipit service identifier is available for the delivery method. The packaging dimensions and weights of the products must match the delivery. An incomplete address will prevent the offer search, and the wrong packaging size may return the wrong price or leave the service without a match altogether.

Open the delivery method settings in the Control Panel

Shipit's live shipping pricing settings are configured in the Control Panel for each shipping method. Open Shipping Settings at /configuration/shipment , find the shipping method you're using, and select Open Settings . Each shipping method has its own set of MODULE_SHIPPING_<CLASS>_* keys, so only change the keys for the method whose price you want to override.

Changes to the shipping method settings are saved automatically. If the shipping method doesn't already exist, select Add shipping method , enter a Shipping method category and Shipping method name , and select Create shipping method . After creating, make sure the shipping method is enabled at checkout and that its internal price works before connecting the live price.

Configure Shipit service, switch and multiplier

Shipit live pricing settings are given with the shipping method's own key prefix. Set MODULE_SHIPPING_<CLASS>_SHIPIT_CODE to the Shipit serviceId value, which should match the shipping method shown at checkout. Then enable MODULE_SHIPPING_<CLASS>_PRICE_PROVIDED_BY_SHIPIT . If the service code is empty or the switch is disabled, the shipping method will continue with internal pricing.

Set MODULE_SHIPPING_<CLASS>_PRICE_MULTIPLIER_FOR_SHIPIT to the desired multiplier. A value of 1.00 will keep the Shipit net price, 0.60 will give a 40 percent discount, and 1.50 will add 50 percent. The multiplier can streamline your pricing strategy or increase your margin, but it does not increase your flat handling fee. Always check the final result as the customer price with tax at checkout.

Maintain a safe internal reserve price

A Shipit live-priced delivery method must have a working internal pricing as a fallback price. If there is no Shipit cost in the session, the service code does not match, or the quote does not have a valid positive price, the delivery method cost will be resolved by other rules in use and ultimately by the default delivery method price. The live price switch alone does not guarantee that a Shipit price will be found.

Do not set the internal fallback price to zero unless you are intentionally accepting free shipping in a situation where the Shipit price is not available. Test the fallback price without the Shipit cost and the live price separately. This way, the checkout remains usable even in the event of a Shipit error, slowness, missing address, or a situation where no matching service is found for the current package.

Understand live price taxation and cash update

Shipit's live shipping price is made up of the net value of the response, the multiplier, and the tax treatment of the shipping method. A Shipit response can contain both a gross and net price, but shipping method pricing uses the net value of the saved cost pair as the basis for the multiplier. The shipping price shown to the customer is then generated based on the shipping method's tax category and the store's tax-free display status. Therefore, check both the net price and the final tax or tax-free value displayed at checkout.

The checkout is intended to first display the reserve price obtained through internal pricing and request a Shipit quote with a separate background call. A successful response will reset the shipping methods with Shipit costs, allowing the price of the selected service to be updated. If the quote request fails, the response is marked as failed and the shipping methods are reset without a new Shipit cost.

Cache tracks address and shopping cart

Shipit's live shipping price cache stores quotes in the customer's session by service ID as net and gross values. The cache fingerprint consists of the shipping zip code, shipping country, and a hash of the cart package size. When any of these changes, previous Shipit costs are flushed before the shipping method price is generated.

If the fingerprint does not change and the cache contains a valid price for all requested Shipit services, no new external call is made. This can be considered a hot cache. An empty cache after an address or shopping cart change is cold and requires a new request for quotation. The price should not be inferred from a previous session if the shopping cart fingerprint does not match.

Do not use Shipit pricing for your own transportation contract

Shipit's live price is suitable for a delivery method where Shipit is the actual pricing provider. Shipit does not know the actual freight price negotiated in the merchant's own transport contract. The own contract may only result in a small label or handling fee in the Shipit response, for example around 0.15 euros ( 0.15 ), in which case using the live price would make the delivery appear too cheap to the customer.

Keep your shipping method pricing internal and the live price toggle disabled. If you want to offer both options, create two clearly named shipping methods: one for your own contract price and one for the Shipit-managed service. Make sure the service code, price, and customer name for each are distinct at checkout.

Test Shipit live price at checkout

The Shipit live price test uses a valid shipping country and zip code, and a shopping cart with known package dimensions and weight. Open the checkout and first check the internal reserve price. Wait for the quote request to complete and make sure the price updates to the correct shipping method. Then change the zip code, country, or shopping cart content and make sure the old quote is removed and a new search is made.

If the price does not update, check the live price switch, SHIPIT_CODE , Shipit IDs, sender and recipient addresses, and package size and weight. If the price is too cheap, check that the shipping method is not a method of your own transportation agreement and that the multiplier is not less than 1.00 . If the price is too high, check the multiplier, shipping method tax category, and that the Shipit service identifier matches the intended service.
