How do you use the Viewed Products report?
See which products customers view the most, and export the list as a CSV file if needed.
Interpreting the Viewed Products report
The Viewed Products report organizes products by recorded views. It helps you identify products that your store visitors have paid attention to. However, views do not indicate purchase intent or sales, so it is worth comparing the result with sales and availability data.
Open the Viewed Products report
The Viewed Products report can be found in the Reports view of the Dashboard.
- Open Reports .
- Find Viewed Products and select Run Report .
- Select Preview to check the result in the Dashboard.
- Open Export and select Download CSV when you need the entire result for a spreadsheet.
The preview may be truncated. The CSV export contains the entire report output. The report does not have a date range, so views are totals from the saved viewing history, not views from the last month, for example.
Read the report columns
Each row in the Viewed Products report represents one product. The columns are:
- Product ID : The numeric record ID of the product.
- Product : The name of the product in the store's default data language.
- SKU : The model or product number of the product.
- Views : The number of recorded viewing events associated with the product.
The rows are first sorted by views from highest to lowest, and in the event of a tie, by product ID from lowest to highest. The report can also show a product with zero recorded views.
Identify interesting anomalies
The Viewed Products report is a good way to find differences between interest and commercial performance.
- If a product has a lot of views but few sales, check the price, availability, shipping costs, product page content, and obstacles in the purchase path.
- If a sold product is getting few views, check its discoverability in search, categories, campaigns, and homepage lifts.
- If there are products among the most viewed that cannot be purchased, check the product's usage status, stock availability, and visibility.
- If there are a lot of zero-view products, determine if the products are new, hidden, hard-to-find, or unused records.
Compare the Viewed Products report to the Sold Products report and up-to-date inventory data. Note that the Viewed report covers all saved viewing history, while the Sales report can be limited by date range. So, don't compare the numbers directly unless you've first verified the compatibility of the comparison periods.
What doesn't the number of views tell you?
View count is the number of events, not the number of unique visitors. The same visitor can generate multiple views for a product. The report does not break down by customer, session, viewing date, traffic source, campaign, or whether the view resulted in a purchase.
The report also doesn't break down rows based on product usage status. Use it as a starting point for insights and validate conclusions about sales, availability, and analytics before making decisions about product mix or campaigns.
