Category management in AI Commerce
Practical instructions for creating categories, field meanings, SEO recommendations, and visibility settings in AI Commerce .
Create and select a category from the category tree
An AI Commerce category is created and selected from the category tree in the Categories view. Select New Category when adding a category, or click the name of an existing category in the category tree when editing its basic information, content, SEO, display, or relationships. The new category is defined with a parent category, order, category code, visibility, and at least the required language-specific names.
The category selected in the category tree opens its own editing sections. The information for the new and existing category is mostly the same, but the existing category can have products, subcategories, images, a gallery, FAQ categories, and other relationships. Save each edit using its own section function and finally check the category in the online store in the correct language.
Fill in the category code, name and URL part
In AI Commerce 's category management, the category code, name, and URL part form the permanent and language-specific basic information for a category. The category code is a permanent identifier used in integrations and CSV synchronization. If the code is left blank when created, the built-in PIM derives a unique code from the given code base or category name. The code is used, for example, in CMS category purchases and other integrations, so it should not be changed without checking the effects.
The language-specific Name of the category is displayed in the online store, and the language flag indicates the language to be edited. The URL part is optional: if empty, it is derived from the name, but it can be given separately, for example in the form miesten-takit , when the search engine-friendly address differs from the visible name. In a multilingual store, the name and URL part are checked for each active store language.
Write a top description and a long description for different purposes
AI Commerce category Description (top, above the product listing) is a short, human-friendly introduction, such as a buying guide or selection tip. The longer description is usually placed after the product listing. The e-commerce implementation can display the top description in conjunction with a banner or condense the long description to the first hundred or so words and a Show More action.
A long description can be over 1000 words for SEO purposes, but it should remain natural to humans and not just be keyword stuffing. You can use HTML tags, relative links, and cross-references in the content. In multilingual stores, internal links are made with shortcodes instead of hard-coded language-specific URLs.
Fine-tune category SEO data
In the SEO section of AI Commerce category, you can edit the language-specific Meta title , Meta description , and URL section. The system can automatically generate metadata if you leave them blank. The recommended length of the meta description is around 155 characters, as Google may truncate the search result text after around 160 characters and may also choose its own description from the visible content.
Keep the meta description consistent with the visible content of the category page. You can verify the meta description by opening the source code of the category page and looking for the <meta name="description"> element. Search engine indexing can take days to update, so make sure you have the correct category, language, and URL before evaluating the result.
Add images and a promotional banner
AI Commerce category images and promotional banner are managed in the Media and Display sections. The category can use a homepage image, category image, banner image and product list top image. Depending on the implementation of the online store, the top image functions as a banner at the top of the page, the category image, for example, in the homepage lift, and the product list top image in connection with the product listing. The order of use and exact placement depend on the user interface implementation of the online store.
The promotional banner can be given language-specific text, button text, and a relative target path, such as /miesten-takit ; the entire domain name is not written in the internal link. The location of the banner button is chosen from the supported options, and a six-character hex color determines the appearance of the button or text depending on the implementation. A lightweight SVG icon is suitable for a category tree, for example, but loading hundreds of heavy icons can slow down the page.
Define order and main category
AI Commerce category Order affects the order of categories and which product category is selected in single-category contexts. The implementation sorts product categories first by sequence number and, in a tie, by category ID. The lowest sequence number and then the lowest ID come first.
Give promotional and seasonal categories, such as Black Friday, Sale, and New Arrivals, a high order number if you don't want them to be the primary category for the product in the breadcrumb or feed category selector. A separate position value can control the order on the homepage and other landing pages without overriding the main category ordering logic.
Limit navigation, indexing, and Google feed
AI Commerce category navigation, indexing, and Google feed are restricted in the Display and SEO sections. Show in navigation determines whether the category appears in the e-commerce category tree, and Show subcategories determines whether subcategories are displayed on the category page in addition to products. Homepage placement and other display options can elevate the category to other parts of the e-commerce, depending on the user interface implementation.
In the SEO section, disabling Google indexing prevents the category from being indexed, although the direct URL may still be accessible. Include in Google Feed limits products in the category in product feeds: a product will only be included in the Google Feed if the Google Feed flag for both the product and the selected category allows it.
Use CMS content when needed
The Replace description with CMS content option for the AI Commerce category instructs the online store to use CMS content instead of the stored category description. The option is only enabled for categories whose descriptions are actually generated in the CMS. This way, other categories use their own top and long descriptions.
The way CMS pages are displayed, API calls, and potential costs depend on the e-commerce implementation and service agreement. When the override is enabled, check the content on the public category page in all languages. The category code serves as a stable join key for CMS category pulls and other integrations.
Attach products, categories, FAQ and gallery
The Linked Products section of AI Commerce category is where you select products that belong to the category. Related categories bring up parallel product groups in the e-commerce listings, and FAQ categories link to the category's help section with sets of frequently asked questions. The e-commerce partner can present relationships as quick links, curated navigation areas, or inspiration purchases.
A category can also include an image gallery. The most important filter criteria for attributes can be highlighted so that the buyer can see, for example, 2-4 key comparison features immediately upon page load. A product's own Display Profile is managed in the product edit view; the same value for multiple products is updated using the product CSV export and import workflow.
Fill in Google and customs information
The Google and customs information for the AI Commerce category is the Google Product Category ID and Tariff Code . The Google Product Category ID is a Google taxonomy identifier used in product feeds and creatives. It is recommended to fill in the identifier so that products are classified in the correct Google product group. The Google feed selects the product from the categories based on the first ordinal number and uses its Google product category.
The tariff code is the HS customs code used by shipping integrations. The code is 6/8/10 digits in length and can be resolved by product shipping processes from its parent category, eliminating the need to maintain the same value for each product. Check the code before international shipping labels and keep the parent category logic consistent for the category.
Export and import categories using CSV
AI Commerce categories are mass-updated using the Categories Export , Categories Import Template , and Categories Import profiles in the Data Exchange view. Start with an export to keep a snapshot of your current category tree, or with a blank import template to create a new asset. The import matches rows by categories_code and validates codes, duplicates, parent_code references, data types, and unsupported legacy fields in the preview.
Only edit the rows and columns that are intended, keep codes in plain text, and prevent your spreadsheet program from converting numbers to dates. The CSV includes the structure, order, visibility flags, image filenames, and names, descriptions, top descriptions, URL parts, and metadata for each active language. Import of svg_icon and faq_questions values is not supported, although they may appear in the export; fix any preview errors before committing.
Final category review
In the final review of AI Commerce category, verify the name, URL section, top description, long description, metadata, images, and relative links of the promotional banner in each language. Check the order, as well as the breadcrumb main category, navigation, subcategories, Google indexing, and Google feed from the public page and feed.
Additionally, ensure that the CMS override, category code, Google product category ID, tariff code, related categories, FAQ categories, gallery, and linked products are included. Make any major changes with a small CSV sample first and keep the fresh export as a restore point. This way, the category tree, integrations, and online store visibility remain manageable even during mass editing.
