Add category HS tariff code

The tariff code for a category is maintained in the Categories view of the Control Panel ( /categories ). Open the category that describes the product, go to the Tariff Code function, and enter the code. The field removes non-numeric characters, allows a maximum of 10 digits, and is saved automatically. Shipit and SmartShip read the value for customs information. The system does not ensure that the length or content of the code matches the HS code required in the destination country. Check the correct code based on the product's material, intended use, and up-to-date customs nomenclature before use.

Utilize category-level customs code with products

A category-level tariff code reduces the need to enter the same value for products separately, but the current shipping implementation does not inherit the code from the category hierarchy. The order line is saved with the category list at the time of the order, and Shipit and SmartShip retrieve the tariff code from the current value of the first category ID in the list. A subsequent change to the product's category association does not change the list saved on the order line. Before creating an address card, make sure that the category that was saved first on the order line has the correct code for the product.

Note the vague selection of a multi-category product

The tariff code selection for a multi-category product is based on the first ID in the comma-separated category list. The query that generates the list does not specify an order, so the Order field of the category, the hierarchy level, or the assumed parent category do not guarantee selection. Also, editing the tariff code of the parent category is not prevented. If the same product belongs to multiple categories, give the same correct tariff code for all its possible first categories or check the saved category list on the order line before generating the address card. Do not change the Order value to correct the tariff code selection.

Fix missing tariff code error

The tariff code missing error tariff_code_unresolved prevents Shipit and SmartShip address card creation if customs information is required and the selected category does not have a code. Check the order and product for the error, find out the first category ID of the order line, add the correct code to it, and try the address card again. The current customs requirement solution keeps customs information required when the ISO code of the shipping country is not in its EU list. It does not recognize Åland separately from the FI code. The external Shipment_CustomsPrintSet or MissingCN22orCN23CustomsDeclaration error is not a guaranteed agreement by the Control Panel, but a variable response from Shipit.
