In this article, we will explain how to add the ability to send attachments to orders to AI Commerce platform. Attachments allow customers to submit, for example, sample images, PDF offers, or other documents that facilitate order processing and communication with the customer. This ensures that all necessary information is as easily available to both the seller and the buyer as possible.

General information about attachment support

  • Supported file types: all files with a MIME type starting with image and application/pdf .
  • The maximum file size allowed is 10 MB (single file).
  • It is possible to increase the size limit in cooperation with a partner, but this is not recommended to prevent data security and abuse.
  • You can't control file formats yourself: AI Commerce backend controls which formats are allowed for security reasons.
  • AVS S3 service scanning: every file undergoes virus checks, but no system is 100% secure.
  • Attachments are stored in a separate data store, so they do not compromise AI Commerce core or its codes.

Where do attachments appear?

  • In the order overview in the control panel, there is an “Attachments” section, where order handlers can see the links to the attachments and utilize the information during the processing phase.
  • Links to these attachments also go to the enterprise resource planning (ERP) system, making the same information available throughout the order chain.

Enabling the function

Attaching attachments to the checkout stage is not enabled by default in all stores. To enable it, a small change to the Checkout file is required. Below is an example (in the form of an image) that a partner can use to make a code change. Here are the most common steps:

  1. Ask your partner or developer to take the Checkout.svelte file for processing.
  2. Please add the missing component to the checkout according to the changes in the image below.
  3. Remember to update the numbering of the order summary and attachment headers if necessary.

Additional tips

  • Remember to inform your customers what types of files they can upload and how large they can be.
  • Always stay vigilant about security: even though the system performs virus scans, no filtering is perfect.
  • Keep the size limit low enough to avoid abuse and unnecessary storage consumption.
