How additional price groups work with products

A surcharge group adds a quantity-dependent unit surcharge to the base price of a product. A group consists of rows, or steps, that have the same Group name but different Minimum Quantity and Unit Price . The same group can be selected for multiple products.

Use an additional price group for things like handling, finishing, or printing. It's not the same as a volume discount: an additional price is added to the base price, while a volume discount changes the calculation of the base price.

What do Additional Price Groups include?

The Additional Price Groups register shows each step as a separate row. The columns are ID , Group , Minimum Quantity and Unit Price . This means that one business group can appear in the list as multiple rows.

The minimum quantity of a step indicates the starting quantity of the product from which its unit price is used. The combination of the same group and minimum quantity is unique, so one group cannot have two different prices for the same threshold.

Creating a surcharge group does not yet affect the product. The effect only begins when the group name is selected in the Volume surcharge group field in the product pricing and the product change is saved.

Design your stairs before you build them

It is a good idea to create a clear table of the steps in the surcharge group before entering them into the register. For each step, write down the exact same group name, a different minimum quantity, and the intended surcharge per unit.

For example, Painatus – oletus group, you can create steps:

  • minimum quantity 10, unit price 5.00
  • minimum quantity 50, unit price 3.50
  • minimum quantity 100, unit price 2.50.

Make sure that the steps are in the order specified by the business rule and that the prices are consistent with taxation, the product's base price, and any volume discounts. The registry validates fields and uniqueness, but does not evaluate the profitability of the pricing.

Create a surcharge group tier

On the Additional price groups page, a new tier is created as its own record.

  1. Open Pricing → Additional price groups .
  2. Select New additional price group .
  3. In the Group field , enter a common group name.
  4. Enter the Minimum quantity as an integer, at least 1.
  5. Enter the Unit Price as a monetary amount.
  6. Select Save .

After creation, the saved step details page opens. Create the next step in the same group by returning to the list and adding a new record with the same group name but a different minimum number.

If the same group and minimum quantity combination already exists, the recording will be rejected as a duplicate. Correct the minimum quantity or edit the existing step.

Edit a step with autosave

The row in the Additional price groups list opens the individual step details page. The fields for an existing step are autosaved.

  1. Open the row you want to edit.
  2. Change Group , Minimum Quantity , or Unit Price .
  3. Exit the field to complete the pending autosave.
  4. Check that the page does not show a validation or save error.

There is no separate Save button on the edit page. Changing the group name only moves this single tier under the new name. If you intend to rename the entire multi-row group, update each tier and check the Volume Add-on Group options for the products.

Remove unnecessary step

The Delete button on the surcharge group details page only applies to the open row ID. It does not automatically delete all steps with the same group name.

Before deleting, check if there are any other steps left in the group and if any products use that group name. The current delete button performs the deletion directly without a separate confirmation window and returns to the list. If you delete the last step, no additional price steps will be created for the product using the group name.

Associate a group with a product

The additional price group is attached to the product using the group name.

  1. Open the product and its pricing information.
  2. Find Volume Add-on Group .
  3. Select the group name from the register or leave the selection blank if no additional price is used for the product.
  4. Save the product pricing change.

The product uses all rows in the register whose Group matches the selected name. The Volume Surcharge Group can be set at the same time as the Volume Discount Group , in which case both pricing mechanisms participate in forming the product price in their own phase.

How is the additional price group transmitted to the online store?

The additional price group is passed to the online store's product information based on the group name. The steps are used to create a structure containing the minimum quantity and the unit price with and without tax. The group name is used to create a label by taking the part before the dash or hyphen: for example, Painatus – oletus produces the name Painatus .

Additional price steps are pricing data that is only displayed to the customer if the active e-commerce implementation renders this structure. Therefore, check the product page and shopping cart in the theme you are using before widespread implementation. If a product does not have a selected group or there are no rows in the group, an additional price structure will not be generated in the product data.

The unit price of the additional price group is not limited to less than the current price of the product in this processing. So do not use a value higher than the product's base price, assuming that the system will automatically correct it.

Good to know

Additional price groups affect multiple records and the product's common name, so it's a good idea to handle changes as managed entities.

  • The same Group + Minimum Quantity combination can only occur once.
  • It is a good idea to design the steps for thresholds 10, 50 and 100 before entering.
  • A new step is saved with the Save button; the existing step is automatically saved.
  • Delete deletes one step without a separate confirmation window.
  • Changing the group name does not automatically update other steps or product selections.
  • A product can have an additional price and a volume discount at the same time.
  • The taxable and tax-free value is formed using the product's tax rate.
  • Check the customer-visible representation of the active ecommerce theme.
