In this article, you will learn how to install and configure shipping methods in the Modules > Shipping section of AI Commerce platform Dashboard. Well-defined shipping methods ensure a smooth shopping experience and clear shipping costs, allowing your store to compete effectively on shipping costs.

Below you will find step-by-step instructions for installing and configuring shipping methods. With comprehensive configuration, you can ensure that shipping methods are displayed correctly in different shopping carts and pricing, whether your products are light or heavy.

Step-by-step instructions

Review and install delivery methods

  • In the Dashboard, go to Modules > Shipping . You will see a list of already installed shipping methods.
  • If you need a new delivery method, go to the Install Modules page. Install the appropriate module or choose the closest equivalent, whose name and settings can be edited later.
  • If the delivery method you need is not in the Install Modules list, you can submit a development request to add a new module.

Basic delivery method settings

  • Select the installed delivery module from the list and open its settings.
  • Choose whether to display the shipping method at checkout (setting "Enable Method"). Set the value to True if you want it to be visible to customers. If necessary, you can hide the shipping method from checkout by setting the value to False, which will preserve the module configurations.
  • Eligible for free shipping : Specify whether the shipping method is eligible for the store's free shipping. This does not automatically make the shipping method free, but only allows it to be free when the store offers free shipping, for example, when a certain shopping cart amount is exceeded.
  • Force display in method list : Force the delivery method to appear in the list of delivery options even in situations where it would not normally meet the criteria of the shopping cart, such as weight.

What is the regulation for free shipping?

To set up free shipping, go to Modules > Order Total > Shipping Surcharge > Free Shipping For Orders Over in your dashboard. The free shipping threshold is set to either excluding or including VAT depending on your store configuration. If you treat product prices as gross, the free shipping threshold will also be gross and vice versa. Free shipping is only applied to shipping methods that have the Eligible for free shipping status set to “true”.

Setting pricing

  • Shipping cost : Set a base price for the shipping method. The final price will be determined by any additional charges for weight, distance, or other factors.
  • You can utilize various parameters (e.g. base price, additional weight, logarithmic discount) to adjust pricing to match courier companies' contract prices as closely as possible.
  • If you are using logarithmic scaling, try using smaller values first (e.g. 10) and test shopping carts with different product weights (e.g. 1000kg). Check that the final pricing result remains competitive.

Weight and dimension limit management

  • Minimum and maximum weight : You can limit the visibility of the delivery method, for example, only to orders within a certain weight limit.
  • Weight Limit Source : Select whether the weight limits use actual weight, shipping weight, or an automatically higher value.
  • If your products have dimensional restrictions (e.g. products that are too long will not fit in a parcel locker), take advantage of the system's dimensional limits settings. The system automatically checks that an individual product or order does not exceed the maximum values you define.

Name, description and visibility

  • Delivery method name : Select the marketing name that will appear at checkout (e.g. “Fast home delivery”). Enter a name in at least Finnish.
  • Description : Briefly describe how delivery will be made (e.g. “2-3 business days, courier to your home”). This will help the customer choose the most suitable option.
  • Specify who the shipping method is visible to (e.g. everyone, consumers only, business customers only, or admins only). You can also restrict the shipping method to specific countries or price zones.
  • Shipping time : Enter the estimated delivery time in days (e.g. “2-3”). The system will automatically display this in days at checkout.

Tax category and zones

  • Tax class : Select the tax rate at which additional shipping costs will be charged. This will depend on the instructions given by your accountant and the taxation of the products you are selling.
  • Shipping zone : Select or create a zone that includes the countries where you want to offer that shipping method. Edit zones if necessary in the separate “geozones” management page.

API ID and possible interface integrations

  • API ID : If you are using an ERP system, for example, fill in the identifier that corresponds to the delivery method you have chosen. This way, the systems will clearly identify the delivery method.
  • If you are using the Shipit integration or other EDI-style address card printing interfaces, make sure the delivery method identifier is exactly the same as the integration accepts.

Test and verify functionality

  • Make test purchases with different weights, dimensions, and cart contents. Make sure that at least one reasonable shipping method is always visible to the customer.
  • Check the functionality of pricing and the accuracy of taxes, weight restrictions, and delivery times.
  • Adjust parameters as needed to keep shipping costs competitive and not deter customers from placing an order.

Removing a delivery method

  • If you want to remove a shipping method completely, select Remove Module . This will remove all settings for the shipping method and you will no longer be able to use it at checkout.

Summary

You can install and configure your shipping method in the Modules > Shipping section of your AI Commerce dashboard. Step-by-step settings for pricing, weight and measurement limits, and visibility ensure that your customers get exactly the right shipping options. Careful testing with different shopping carts helps keep prices and shipping times competitive and minimizes errors.
