Quantity step surcharge model with products

A surcharge group is a group of quantity steps combined by a name. Each step defines a Minimum Quantity and a corresponding Unit Price that is added to the product's base price. The same group name can be selected for multiple products.

Use a surcharge group only when you want a surcharge that depends on quantity. A quantity discount group changes the base price tier, while a Volume surcharge group adds a separate unit price alongside the base price.

What does the Additional Price Groups tab contain?

The Additional Price Groups tab in the Pricing workspace is in the same register entity as Group Discounts and Quantity Discounts . The table shows each tier as its own row in the columns ID , Group , Minimum Quantity , and Unit Price .

One group can therefore appear multiple times in the table. The combination of group name and minimum quantity can only appear once. The product is associated with the steps based on the name, not the ID of a single step.

Sharing a group reduces product-specific maintenance, but makes the name an important connection key. Plan names and steps before connecting the group to a large set of products.

Add a new step

On the Additional Price Groups page, each tier is created as a separate record.

  1. Select New additional price group .
  2. Enter Group . Use the exact same name for all rows in the same hierarchy.
  3. Enter the Minimum quantity as an integer, at least 1.
  4. Enter the Unit Price as a monetary amount.
  5. Select Save .

Create the other steps in the same way. If the same group and minimum quantity combination already exists, the save will be rejected as a duplicate. In that case, open the existing row for editing.

Build a Bulk Order Example

The Suurtilaus Order additional price group can be built from three separate lines:

  • Minimum quantity 10 — Unit price 4.50
  • Minimum quantity 50 — Unit price 4.00
  • Minimum quantity 100 — Unit price 3.50 .

All three rows have the same Group value Suurtilaus . When this name is selected in the Volume Surcharge Group field for a product, the product information will search all three tiers.

Check the pricing logic of the steps yourself. The registry prevents duplicate group name and minimum quantity combinations, but it does not ensure descending order of prices, margin, or interaction with other pricing rules.

Edit or delete a step

A row in the Additional Price Groups table opens the details page for an individual step. The editing page automatically saves changes to the Group , Minimum Quantity , and Unit Price fields when you exit the field. There is no separate Save button when editing an existing row.

Delete on the details page deletes the open ID row directly. It does not delete other steps with the same name, and the user interface does not show product references or a separate confirmation window before deletion.

If you change the group name in just one row, the step will move to the new name, but the other steps and product selections will remain the same. Renaming the entire group should be planned as a multi-record change.

Attach an additional price group to a product

The Additional Price Groups tab defines the tier structure, but the product association is made in the product pricing.

  1. Open the product's pricing information.
  2. Select the desired group name in the Volume add-on group field.
  3. Leave the field blank if the product does not use a surcharge.
  4. Save the product pricing change.

The same group can be assigned to multiple products. A change in the group level affects all products that still use the exact same group name. A product can also have a Volume Discount Group at the same time; the mechanisms are treated separately in pricing.

How is additional price data transmitted to the online store?

The additional price group is transmitted to the online store's product information based on the group name. For each tier, a minimum quantity is generated, as well as the unit price with and without tax calculated using the product's tax rate. The first part of the group name before the dash or hyphen acts as a label.

However, the product information alone does not prove in which format the active theme displays the stairs. Check the product page and shopping cart with the correct product and theme. If the product does not have a group or no rows are found with the group name, no additional price structure will be generated.

The search query for steps does not lock their order, and the unit price of the additional price in this processing is not limited to the valid price of the product. So do not rely on automatic sorting or price caps, but validate the entered values and the customer presentation.

Good to know

Additional price groups are based on a common name, so a change to one line can affect a wide range of products or accidentally disconnect a step from other lines.

  • The same group name and minimum number are only allowed once.
  • The minimum number must be a positive integer.
  • A new step is saved with the button; the existing step is automatically saved.
  • The deletion applies to a single row without separate confirmation.
  • The group name change will not be passed on to other levels or products.
  • The additional price works alongside the base price and can be combined with a volume discount.
  • The tax-inclusive and tax-exclusive price is calculated based on the product's tax rate.
  • Check the order of the steps, prices and thematic presentation before use.
