AI Commerce has grown organically from over 15 years of development, starting with our own e-commerce platform back in 2010. The founder of the platform has been a full-time e-commerce trader since that year, building practical expertise from a merchant perspective. This means that AI Commerce has been designed from the ground up based on real business needs – not just engineers’ assumptions about possible features.

By 2015, we opened the platform to other online retailers, and its popularity grew rapidly. Our extensive experience as a merchant and our technical expertise combined to develop solutions for all key online retail needs – from basic functionality to modern, demanding technical implementations. This long-term development work has created a solid foundation for AI Commerce , on which the next generation version can be built.

In 2022, we decided to implement a major overhaul and rebuild the entire platform. This was an investment of several man-years, during which none of our customers had yet migrated to the new platform. This overhaul project coincided with the breakthrough of generative artificial intelligence. Artificial intelligence entered our development as a strong consultant, providing unlimited information and recommendations on various technical implementation options and their benefits and risks. In addition, artificial intelligence participated concretely in the development work through modern tools.

We had a strong view ten years ago that AI would eventually play a significant role in running online commerce. As many digital processes can be automated and optimized with AI, the role of humans will be reduced, especially in repetitive tasks. This was one of the key reasons why we named the new version of the platform AI Commerce – we wanted to highlight the central contribution of AI and pay tribute to the revolutionary power that we saw in AI early on.

Artificial intelligence has enabled us to have a very agile development model. We avoid the bureaucracy and complex communication typical of large teams, which often paralyzes the progress of software projects. We are able to develop AI Commerce at up to ten times the speed compared to traditional software development. We want to maintain this speed in the future. We believe that the best way to achieve this is to keep the core development in the hands of a small and close-knit group of experts, where artificial intelligence acts as a constant support and “additional member” of the team.

We invest significant amounts in AI solutions, always utilizing the most advanced technologies from service providers. We support scalability by increasingly entrusting customized customer-specific implementations to our partners. This allows partners to focus on the everyday needs of merchants, and we can channel the resources of the core team into joint, innovative AI-based solutions. One example is already visible: AI has been trained to answer the majority of merchants' questions directly in the AI Commerce dashboard. This gives customers immediate answers, and frees up the development team to build even smarter features. AI is also utilized in translation work, generating alt texts for product images, search features, and customer interface interaction, where it can present products like a salesperson or customer service representative.

Our long-term vision is that AI will play an increasingly important role in commerce in the future – even to the point where AI acts as the buyer on one side of the transaction and the seller on the other. In both roles, AI has access to vast data resources, based on which it makes calculated and simulated decisions. This significantly reduces the role of humans, especially in B2B commerce, where efficiency, speed and accuracy take center stage. In consumer commerce, the role of humans is more likely to remain, as the shopping experience is still often associated with experiential and emotional experiences.

The world is not yet fully ready for this change, nor are businesses or users. However, AI Commerce is looking to the future with confidence: AI-assisted commerce and the opportunities it brings are an integral part of our strategy. On the journey to AI commerce, we are moving forward step by step, equipping the first customers to join with a significant competitive advantage. We believe that it is precisely these early adopters who will have an exceptional advantage as AI Commerce expands from traditional online shopping to a more comprehensive, AI-driven commerce.
